Commercial and Other Work...
Other recent projects in our office include works to listed buildings, hotels, bars, restaurants, schools, and office interiors. Many of these works involve existing buildings which require a degree of structural redesign. This can involve anything from underpinning and excavation of basements to removal of walls and creation of new openings. Our scope of work on these projects often overlaps into interior design, as we are often asked to choose and design the interior finishes and fittings. This project is a refurbishment of an existing bar following flood damage caused by a leak. As the bar is in the basement of an existing building, a small amount of the initial work is structural, and the remainder is interior architecture. The concept of the bar will incorporate some lunchtime trade with an evening cocktail bar, and the design has taken its inspiration from current fashion trends and an artist's installation. The bar is currently under construciton, and all photogaphs will be updated in due course.
This is a two stage refurbishment of a North Soho Restaurant. Stage one involved the complete upgrade to the WCs and kitchens in order to allow the restaurant to function throughout a busy Christmas period. Stage two will commence in February and is to involve the complete refurbishment of the entire site, including a new stair and basement bar.
This hotel in Cheltenham is currently undergoing a full interior re-design and exension into the basement to house a spa, gym and massage treatment facilities. Our proposals involve working with a structural and mechanical engineer in order to provide the owner with a full "design and build" package, which has been fully approved by the Building Regulations department of the local council. Our role in this project is ongoing.
Our clients purchased this Listed property in a Conservation Area with a view to a full refurbishment, extension into the loft, and to the rear. We gained planning permission for a loft room with a large roof terrace, a garage and substantial removal of walls at the ground floor level in order to create a large open plan living space. The final design of the property resulted in a 10 bedroom, 6 bathroom, substantial family home in the heart of Cowes, Isle of Wight. All refurbishment and alteration works were carried out with a sensitivity to the character and design of the original construction, whilst at the same time creating more space for a large family to inhabit.
Commenced in 2000, this project was initially a feasibility study for the RACC to refurbish one of their existing buildings, extend to the rear and create a number of new artists' studios. Our proposals involved a flexible, open plan layout (allowing class sizes to expand and contract each term). We also designed a modern rear extension to house the woodworking studios and sculpture workshops. We then moved the project to planning permssion stage whilst the college concentrated upon finding an adequate level of funding to support the project.
